Bonkei is an original creation that fuses two iconic symbols of Japanese culture: bonsai and the shamo, the Japanese gamefowl.
Bonsai is the art of cultivating miniature trees that embody decades—even centuries—of growth, capturing the enduring strength and beauty of nature within a single living form. The shamo, known for its fierce gaze and fearless spirit, has long been admired as a symbol of strength, courage, and pride.
I united these two forms through the one quality they share: the will to endure.
The fierce fighting spirit of the shamo and the quiet vitality of the bonsai are merged into a single being—a presence where stillness and motion, nature and combat, time and life coexist.
This work gives form to the resilience that continues to grow through every hardship. I created Bonkei as a symbol of unwavering determination and the relentless force of life.
